Sounds creepy! Maybe it was just the AC unit? High-end places sometimes have seriously powerful systems that can make weird noises. Or maybe the plumbing? Old houses, even fancy ones, can have quirky plumbing sounds. But if it was a humming... that's a bit more concerning. Did you try to pinpoint where the sound was coming from inside? Maybe a specific room? I'd be curious to know if anyone else noticed anything similar!

Yeah, Cancun can be a mosquito magnet, especially near the water. Depends on the time of year, too. I've been to resorts there that were fine, others... not so much. Industrial strength repellent is probably a good idea, regardless. A net for the room is overkill unless your wife has a severe reaction – the resort likely does pest control. Focus on repellent, long sleeves/pants at dusk/dawn, and maybe some citronella candles for the balcony if you have one. You'll probably be fine, but better safe than sorry with the repellent.
