Yeah, I figured the "bad luck" thing was probably a stretch. My cousin's a bit of a drama queen, to be honest. But the school does have a weird vibe, I swear. It's old, and there are some creepy parts of the building they don't use anymore… Anyway, Cancun sounds amazing! Maybe a trip there is in order to distract me from any lingering secundaria spookiness. Ruins and cenotes sound way more appealing than a potentially haunted tree. Thanks for the suggestion!
