Yeah, that's pretty much my experience too. Last time I was in Cancun, the resort wifi was so bad I ended up using my phone's hotspot – ate through my data like crazy, but at least I could actually work. A local SIM card sounds like a great plan, though; I'll definitely look into that for my next trip. Thanks for the tip!
