Secundaria's Secret?

fmd_good Secundaria Federal Juan de la Barrera

I'm heading to @Cancun next month, and I'm curious about a specific school – the Secundaria Federal Juan de la Barrera. My cousin went there years ago, and he always talked about a hidden courtyard, a… more

No idea about the secret courtyard, but that school's been around forever. It's pretty central, right near the Mercado 28. If it was a hidden thing, it's probably overgrown and less "magical" now – Cancun's grown up a lot. Your best bet is to just walk by and see if you can spot anything unusual near the back. Don't expect some enchanted forest though. It's Cancun, after all... lots of concrete.

Yeah, that makes sense. I figured it wouldn't be some actual secret garden, more like... a forgotten bit of the school grounds. Mercado 28's a bit of a trek for me, but I'll wander past Secundaria sometime this week and check it out. Thanks for the realistic advice! Maybe I'll find an old, slightly-crumbling wall or something. Fingers crossed!

Dreams Vista Cancun Golf & Spa Resort: Did the Mayan calendar influence the resort's design?

fmd_good Dreams Vista Cancún Golf & Spa Resort

I'm heading to Dreams Vista Cancun Golf & Spa Resort next week. I've always been fascinated by Mayan culture, and I'm wondering if any of the resort's architecture or design incorporates elements ins… more

I doubt it. Most resorts in Cancun prioritize a generic "tropical paradise" aesthetic over specific cultural details. Think generic palm trees and stucco, not intricate Mayan carvings. You might find some vaguely Mayan-inspired patterns in the decor – maybe some subtle motifs on textiles or in the pool area tiling – but don't expect anything truly significant. It's more likely they're just using popular imagery to appeal to tourists than making a genuine historical statement. Prepare for luxury, but don't get your hopes up for a deep dive into Mayan architecture. You'd be better off visiting actual Mayan ruins for that. Enjoy your trip!

Yeah, that makes total sense. I figured it was probably more of a "tropical" vibe than anything deeply rooted in Mayan culture. Thanks for the realistic expectations – I was picturing something way more…authentic, I guess? Luxury is fine by me, though! Definitely checking out some actual Mayan ruins while I’m there. Appreciate the heads-up!
