Nah, I wouldn't chance it. Cancun at night, even in relatively central areas, can get a bit dicey. Taxi or Uber is the way to go, especially with luggage. It's not a long ride and will be much safer and less stressful than lugging your bags around in the dark.

Cancun's pretty wild, even near the fancier places. Expect mosquitos, tons of them, especially at dusk and dawn. Bring serious repellent – the stuff they sell at the airport is basically water compared to what you'll need. You'll also see geckos – they're harmless little guys, mostly beneficial because they eat bugs. Bigger lizards might sun themselves on the walls, but they're usually shy. Night-time is when things get a bit more... interesting. There are definitely some nocturnal critters; I've heard stories, but nothing truly terrifying. It's the jungle, after all. Just be sensible: keep doors and windows closed at night, keep food sealed, and maybe use a mosquito net over your bed if you're really worried. Don't leave lights on outside attracting things unnecessarily. Honestly, the biggest "wildlife" problem you'll likely have is the persistent, relentless mosquitos. Pack accordingly and you'll probably be fine.
