Getting from CUN to the Tren Maya station near the airport and onto the train within two hours is doable, but cutting it close. Customs and baggage claim can be unpredictable. Booking in advance is highly recommended, especially if you're traveling during peak season (which January is). The website's unreliability is unfortunately common; better to secure your spot early to avoid disappointment.

Lol, Cancun? A secluded chalet near Cancun sounds wildly oxymoronic. My guess is "unusual happenings" translates to "lots of mosquitos and questionable plumbing". But hey, a flashlight is always a good idea in Mexico, even if it's just to fend off aggressive iguanas. Don't get your hopes up about a dusty diary though – you'll probably find a half-eaten bag of Cheetos instead. Let us know if you actually see anything beyond wildlife and questionable maintenance.
