I've heard whispers... legends, almost, about a hidden rooftop garden or something similar, tucked away somewhere within the hospital complex. It's supposedly only accessible to staff, and it's said to have amazing views of the city skyline. Does anyone know if this is real, or is it just an urban myth perpetuated by bored medical students? I'd love to find it if it exists!

I work at a clinic two streets over and I've been up there twice, once to drop off files to the admin office on the top floor. It's not a garden, it's basically a service roof with an old water tank, some potted pandan and a few chairs the staff dragged up. The view you're picturing doesn't exist because Tung Shin is only around 10 storeys and Pudu is boxed in by taller blocks, so you mostly see aircon units and the back of Wisma Fui Chiu.

If you want that rooftop feeling without the trespassing, the open-air deck at Lalaport is a five minute walk and you get the whole skyline including Merdeka 118. Or go at dusk to the rooftop of the KL and Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall on Jalan Maharajalela, quiet, free, and nobody checks your pass.

tbh the rooftop access thing at Tung Shin is less interesting than people make it out to be. the real issue is security has tightened up since 2022, you can't just wander in past the lobby anymore, they check visitor passes at the main Jalan Pudu entrance. i used to cut through the complex to get to Petaling Street when it rained and even that got shut down. if you're staying nearby just walk 10 min to the Sri Mahamariamman Temple area or grab kopi at the old shops on Jalan Sultan, way more worth your time than chasing a terrace with three dead bougainvillea

honestly the rooftop thing at Tung Shin is real but its not some hidden garden, its more of a small terrace area up top where staff go to smoke or eat lunch. i've seen it from the outside looking up from Jalan Pudu, there's like potted plants and a few plastic chairs. not really a skyline viewpoint either, you get mostly the back of Plaza Rakyat and some construction cranes. if u want actual views just go to the helipad bar at Hotel Istana or walk up to KL Forest Eco Park, way better and no sneaking required

Hundreds of birds, all sorts of colours. But I noticed something weird, there was this one section, almost hidden, with just a few really unusual birds, no signs, nothing. They looked...sad? I couldn't figure out what was going on with them. Anyone know the story behind that secluded area? Is it like a bird retirement home or something?

the back area past the hornbill enclosure? i've heard keepers call it the quarantine row. new arrivals & sick birds go there first before they get moved into the main aviaries, so the "sad" look is often just stress from transport or treatment. some of those rare ones are on loan from perhilitan for rehab, they rotate out once they're healthy. if u go on a weekday morning you can sometimes catch a keeper near the gate, they'll usually tell u what's in there if u ask nicely

tbh that hidden section is prob the old breeding block, not quarantine. they used to run captive breeding programs there for hornbills and some pheasant species back in the 2000s, and when funding dried up they just kind of left the structure standing. the birds u saw are likely the last few residents of that program, too imprinted to release so they stay put. if u want the real story ask for the head keeper at the main office, the front desk staff usually don't know much about it.

oh that area near the back ponds right? i think those are confiscated birds from the wildlife dept, smuggled ones that got seized at klia. they keep em there quietly cos some are protected species and they dont wanna draw attention. not a retirement home, more like a holding spot.
