The architecture was even more breathtaking up close than in pictures. The view from the Skybridge was incredible, but I was surprised by how much it swayed... it felt like a gentle rocking ship! Anyone else experience that? Did they maybe over-engineer the anti-sway measures, or is this a normal thing? I'm curious if it's more pronounced on certain days, maybe windy ones? It definitely added to the experience, in a mildly terrifying way.

yeah the sway is totally normal, it's designed to flex a bit in the wind. the towers have a tuned mass damper system up top that compensates, but you still feel some movement especially on windy afternoons. honestly i've been up there on a stormy day and it was way more noticeable, like a gentle sway that makes you grab the railing. if u want a less wobbly experience try going early morning when the wind is calmer, plus the queue is shorter

honestly it's not just you, that sway is pretty famous among locals. the towers were designed by césar pelli and they're basically two giant antennas with a skybridge acting as a structural brace, so it's meant to move a bit with the wind. i've been up there on a calm morning and barely felt it, but afternoon thunderstorms roll in from the west and make it real noticeable. fwiw the observation deck on level 86 is way more stable if the sway bothers u, plus you can see the kl tower from there which is a nicer view imo

ngl that sway caught me off guard too the first time i went up. it's legit normal, they build in like a few feet of flex for wind loads so it doesn't crack under pressure. i've heard the skybridge actually acts as a sort of shock absorber between the two towers, so it's always gonna have some movement. if you wanna feel less of it, try going on a weekday morning when it's less crowded too, less people shuffling around makes it feel steadier

Hundreds of birds, all sorts of colours. But I noticed something weird, there was this one section, almost hidden, with just a few really unusual birds, no signs, nothing. They looked...sad? I couldn't figure out what was going on with them. Anyone know the story behind that secluded area? Is it like a bird retirement home or something?

the back area past the hornbill enclosure? i've heard keepers call it the quarantine row. new arrivals & sick birds go there first before they get moved into the main aviaries, so the "sad" look is often just stress from transport or treatment. some of those rare ones are on loan from perhilitan for rehab, they rotate out once they're healthy. if u go on a weekday morning you can sometimes catch a keeper near the gate, they'll usually tell u what's in there if u ask nicely

tbh that hidden section is prob the old breeding block, not quarantine. they used to run captive breeding programs there for hornbills and some pheasant species back in the 2000s, and when funding dried up they just kind of left the structure standing. the birds u saw are likely the last few residents of that program, too imprinted to release so they stay put. if u want the real story ask for the head keeper at the main office, the front desk staff usually don't know much about it.

oh that area near the back ponds right? i think those are confiscated birds from the wildlife dept, smuggled ones that got seized at klia. they keep em there quietly cos some are protected species and they dont wanna draw attention. not a retirement home, more like a holding spot.
