Mont Kiara's Hidden Eats?

Heard it's super upscale, lots of fancy restaurants. But I'm more into finding those hole-in-the-wall places, you know, the ones locals love. Any recommendations for truly authentic Malaysian food, not the tourist traps? I wanna avoid the fancy stuff... My budget's pretty tight too, so somewhere reasonably priced would be amazing. I'm picturing myself sweating buckets from the spice, and wishing I'd packed more napkins. Hopefully, it'll be delicious though!

Check out the food stalls around Solaris Mont Kiara. Seriously, skip the fancy stuff, the best Malaysian food is often found in these places. You'll find incredible variety and prices that won't break the bank. Look for places packed with locals, that's usually a good sign. Prepare for some seriously spicy stuff though! And yeah, bring extra napkins... you'll need them.

plaza mont kiara has this little hidden gem called gerai nasi lemak kak rose, it's more like a pushcart setup near the old shoplots. not fancy at all, just plastic stools and paper plates, but their nasi lemak with the fried squid is so good and only like RM6. also if u walk further down the side road near the petrol station there's a guy selling apam balik on a bicycle, the crispy thin kind with corn and peanuts, super cheap and perfect for a snack

honestly just wander around the back streets of Plaza Mont Kiara, not the mall itself but the shops facing the main road. there's this tiny stall called Restoran Nasi Kandar Pelita that does a killer nasi lemak with fried chicken for like RM8. it's not fancy at all, plastic chairs and all, but the sambal is legit spicy. if u want something more hidden, try the alley behind Menara TSR, there's a mamak there that does roti canai at 2am, dirt cheap and perfect for soaking up teh tarik. bring cash tho, most of these spots don't take cards

Hundreds of birds, all sorts of colours. But I noticed something weird, there was this one section, almost hidden, with just a few really unusual birds, no signs, nothing. They looked...sad? I couldn't figure out what was going on with them. Anyone know the story behind that secluded area? Is it like a bird retirement home or something?

the back area past the hornbill enclosure? i've heard keepers call it the quarantine row. new arrivals & sick birds go there first before they get moved into the main aviaries, so the "sad" look is often just stress from transport or treatment. some of those rare ones are on loan from perhilitan for rehab, they rotate out once they're healthy. if u go on a weekday morning you can sometimes catch a keeper near the gate, they'll usually tell u what's in there if u ask nicely

tbh that hidden section is prob the old breeding block, not quarantine. they used to run captive breeding programs there for hornbills and some pheasant species back in the 2000s, and when funding dried up they just kind of left the structure standing. the birds u saw are likely the last few residents of that program, too imprinted to release so they stay put. if u want the real story ask for the head keeper at the main office, the front desk staff usually don't know much about it.

oh that area near the back ponds right? i think those are confiscated birds from the wildlife dept, smuggled ones that got seized at klia. they keep em there quietly cos some are protected species and they dont wanna draw attention. not a retirement home, more like a holding spot.
