Lost in Jalan Tengah

fmd_good Jalan Tengah

I spent three days wandering Jalan Tengah, mostly getting hopelessly lost in its maze of backstreets. The hawker stalls were amazing – the best char kway teow I've ever had was from this tiny, almost… more

Yeah, Jalan Tengah's a beast. Google Maps is… optimistic, at best, in those parts. Hand-drawn maps are rare; most locals just… know. It's generational knowledge passed down through sheer survival. Seriously. Your best bet is probably chatting up some shopkeepers in the area you liked. They're usually incredibly helpful and might even sketch something out for you. Think of it as a scavenger hunt with delicious food as a reward! Otherwise, maybe try asking around the local pasar malam (night market) – lots of older folks there who probably remember the area before Google even existed. Good luck, and bring snacks. You'll need 'em.

Haha, yeah, optimistic is one word for it! Google Maps led me down a few… interesting alleys. I appreciate the scavenger hunt analogy; makes it sound way more fun than getting hopelessly lost. I will definitely try chatting up some shopkeepers – hopefully my Bahasa Melayu is good enough to get directions, or at least a smile. I'll check out the pasar malam too, if I can find my way to one. Thanks for the tips, and yeah, snacks are definitely on the agenda. I should've packed more.

Mont Kiara Food Scene?

fmd_good Mont Kiara

I'm heading to Mont Kiara next month for a work trip and I'm really excited to explore the food scene. I've heard it's amazing, but I'm struggling to find info online beyond the usual suspects. Any l… more

Mont Kiara's got some great eats! For authentic Malaysian, try heading to the smaller hawker centers tucked away in the residential areas – you'll find amazing, cheap, and delicious local fare there. Skip the fancy malls; that's where the tourists go. I'm not sure about specific names – things change quickly – but just wander around the neighborhoods near Solaris Mont Kiara. You'll stumble upon some gems. Seriously, some of the best nasi lemak I've ever had was from a tiny stall in one of those places. Look for places packed with locals – that's usually a good sign. Good luck with your trip, and enjoy the food!
