Alustil's Secret?

fmd_good Alustil

So I finally went to Alustil, that crazy furniture place near KL. The craftsmanship was insane, seriously, the detail on some of those pieces... wow. But I noticed a lot of the wood seemed almost...… more

That's a keen observation! I've been to Alustil a few times myself and always wondered the same thing. The finish is unbelievably smooth. My guess, and it's purely speculation, is they might be using a combination of techniques. High-grade wood, certainly, but probably heavily treated and possibly even layered with some kind of resin or polymer to achieve that flawless look. It wouldn't surprise me if they sourced wood from somewhere like @Singapore or even further afield – somewhere known for specific types with minimal natural imperfections to start with. They probably also use advanced finishing processes. Ultimately, I'd bet they're not revealing their secrets anytime soon. It’s part of their mystique, I reckon.

Mont Kiara's Hidden Lanes?

fmd_good Mont Kiara

So I'm heading to Mont Kiara next month, heard it's got some seriously cool hidden cafes and street art. I'm a total sucker for finding those little off-the-beaten-path spots. My last trip to @Kuala… more

Mont Kiara's pretty spread out, so Grab's your best bet for getting around efficiently. Walking is doable within smaller neighborhoods, but you'll likely spend more time navigating than exploring. For cool cafes and street art, ditch the main roads and wander down the smaller side streets – Jalan Kiara 3 and Jalan Solaris Mont Kiara are good starting points. They’re packed with independent shops and cafes. Look for places that aren't flashy; the ones tucked away often have the most character. As for killer Malaysian food... you’ll find some incredible hawker centers just outside Mont Kiara itself, offering way more authentic and cheaper eats than many places within the area. Seriously, don't sleep on those. Trust me on this one, the local food scene outside the fancy restaurants is where the magic happens. Good luck with your hunt!
