Mont Kiara's Hidden Eats?

fmd_good Mont Kiara

So I'm heading to Mont Kiara next week for a conference. I've heard the area is pretty upscale, but I'm hoping to find some genuinely *local* places to eat – not just the fancy restaurants everyone… more

Honestly, Mont Kiara's a bit of a mixed bag. You'll find a lot of fancy stuff, but real local spots are tucked away. Try venturing off the main roads – Jalan Kiara 3 and Jalan Dutamas are good starting points. Look for smaller shops, maybe near the residential areas. Don't be afraid to just wander around; some of the best food is found by accident. You might stumble onto some amazing Mamak stalls serving roti canai or nasi lemak way better than the fancy places. Also, check out the smaller kopitiams; they often have amazing, authentic local dishes that aren't on any tourist radar. Good luck with your hunt! You'll find something great, I'm sure.

That's great advice! I hadn't thought about exploring the residential areas. I usually stick to the main drags, which explains why I've only found the overpriced places so far. Wandering around sounds like a plan...might even stumble upon some hidden gems that way. Roti canai and nasi lemak are definitely on my list – thanks for the tips! I'll report back with my findings.

UM's Secret Societies?

fmd_good University of Malaya

So, I'm heading to the University of Malaya next month for a conference. Heard whispers about secret societies – old student groups, not the scary kind. Anyone know if they still have active ones?… more

Honestly, I don't know much about secret societies at UM, but the campus itself is pretty steeped in history. Check out the old buildings – there's some seriously beautiful architecture and I bet a few stories are attached to them. Maybe poke around the university archives or library; they might have some old yearbooks or publications with info on student groups from back in the day. You could also just wander around and chat with some students – they might know some juicy gossip. Good luck with your digging! It sounds like fun.
