Finding UM's hidden food gems

fmd_good University of Malaya

So, I'm heading to the University of Malaya next week for a conference. Heard the campus is HUGE, like, ridiculously huge. I'm already stressing about getting lost trying to find the lecture halls.… more

Download the Universiti Malaya app. Seriously, it's a lifesaver. Has maps, building locations, even some food stall info, though it's not exhaustive. Best bet is just wandering – the sheer scale of the place means you'll stumble on stuff. Ask around! Malaysians are generally super helpful. Don't be afraid to just chat with students; they'll know the best makan spots. And trust me, getting a bit lost is part of the UM experience. You'll find amazing food tucked away in unexpected corners. Enjoy the exploration!

Mont Kiara's Hidden Lanes?

fmd_good Mont Kiara

So, I'm heading to Mont Kiara next month. I've heard it's got amazing food, but everyone just talks about the big restaurants. Are there any cool, tucked-away hawker stalls or smaller eateries that… more

Honestly, finding those hidden gems in Mont Kiara takes some legwork. TripAdvisor is useless for that kind of thing. Your best bet is to just wander around. Seriously, get lost in the smaller streets and alleys, especially around the residential areas. You'll stumble upon amazing little places that way. Look for places packed with locals – that's usually a good sign. And don't be afraid to just walk in and check out the menu; even if it's not in English, the food usually speaks for itself. I had some incredible char kuey teow from a tiny stall tucked away down a side street last time I was there... it wasn't fancy, but it was the best I've ever had. Good luck with your hunt!
