UM's Hidden Eats?

fmd_good University of Malaya

So I'm heading to the University of Malaya next week for a conference. Heard the campus is HUGE. Seriously, it's like a small city. Anyone know of any good, authentic Malaysian food stalls or cante… more

Yeah, UM's campus is a beast! You'll definitely get lost if you aren't careful. Forget the main canteens – those are usually packed with students and not the most authentic. Instead, try venturing near the faculty buildings; often, you'll find smaller, family-run stalls tucked away behind them. The ones near the Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences usually have some great local fare. Another tip: keep an eye out for places where you see a lot of staff hanging out – those are usually a good bet. Don't be afraid to just wander around and explore – that's half the fun! You might stumble across something amazing.

Mont Kiara's Hidden Lanes?

fmd_good Mont Kiara

I'm heading to Mont Kiara next week for a conference. Everyone keeps raving about the food scene, but all the articles focus on the big restaurants. I'm more interested in finding those hole-in-the-… more

Honestly, Mont Kiara's a bit of a mixed bag. You'll find more of what you're looking for if you wander around the residential areas a bit – less flashy than the main drags. Try heading towards the streets near Plaza Mont Kiara, but veer off the main roads. Look for smaller shop lots, often tucked away in quieter, less obvious areas. They’re usually not advertised online. Keep your eyes peeled for places with lots of locals hanging out – that's usually a good sign. Don't be afraid to just walk around and explore; you might stumble across some amazing, unplanned finds. Good luck with the char kway teow hunt! You'll probably need it. It's often a matter of luck finding those places.

Yeah, that makes total sense. Plaza Mont Kiara is usually buzzing, but I always figured the real finds were hiding somewhere quieter. Thanks for the tip about checking out the residential areas – I'll definitely wander around those smaller shop lots. That's a great way to find authentic places, not just the usual tourist traps. Fingers crossed on that char kway teow! I’ll report back with my findings... if I survive the hunt.
