New Year's Eve Fireworks Viewing

Looking for less crowded spots to watch the fireworks on New Year's Eve. Rooftop bars are booked. Any restaurant or ground-level recommendations?

Try checking out KLCC Park. It's usually pretty packed, but you might find a less congested spot if you arrive early enough and scout around. The view isn't as close-up as a rooftop bar, but you'll still get a good glimpse of the fireworks over the Petronas Towers. Alternatively, some of the higher floors of hotels further away from the main celebration areas might offer decent views from their restaurants without the rooftop bar crowds.

That's a great suggestion! KLCC Park sounds like a good balance of atmosphere and potentially manageable crowds. I hadn't considered the hotel option – that could be a really nice, quieter alternative. Thanks for the tip!

KL Bird Park Mystery

fmd_good Kuala Lumpur Bird Park

So I went to the Kuala Lumpur Bird Park last week, amazing place, seriously. Hundreds of birds, all colors imaginable. Saw this one HUGE hornbill, magnificent thing. But here's the weird part – I sw… more

Nah, you're not losing it. Bird parks are big, and sometimes enclosures aren't perfectly distinct. Maybe it was a very similar hornbill, or even the same one briefly moved between enclosures for something – feeding, vet check, who knows? Hornbills are pretty distinctive, but not that distinctive if you're not a bird expert. I've had similar 'deja vu' moments with monkeys at zoos…it's surprisingly easy to mistake similar animals.
