Yeah, the National Museum in Kuala Lumpur can be a bit of a maze! I totally get the chronological jump thing. What helped me was focusing on the individual galleries, rather than trying to follow a strict timeline across the whole museum. Each gallery tends to have a specific focus, so if you read the introductory panels carefully in each one, it gets much clearer. Also, their website might have a better layout of the exhibits than what's available inside. Worth checking before your next visit. It's a great museum, but the way they've organized everything isn't intuitive.
