Thinking of relocating to Kuala Lumpur.

Retired (Asian 55F) here from California. I will be moving and living in KL for the first time; and will make Mont Kiara home. Is there anything I should be aware of to help with my move? I will rely… more

Mont Kiara's a good choice – quite expat-heavy, so you'll find lots of English speakers and familiar conveniences. Be prepared for a bit of a culture shock, even if you're Asian. Things move at a different pace here. Also, getting a local SIM card with a data plan will be much cheaper than relying solely on Grab for navigation. Enjoy the food! You won't regret it.

Jalan Limau Purut Mystery

fmd_good Jalan Limau Purut

So, I'm heading to Jalan Limau Purut next week, it's for a friend's wedding. I've heard stories... whispers, really, about this old "rumah panjang" – a long house – hidden somewhere in the backstre… more

Nah, I've never heard of that specific long house, but Kuala Lumpur's got a ton of hidden weirdness. Old colonial buildings, forgotten temples... you'll find all sorts of creepy stuff if you poke around enough. Jalan Limau Purut itself is pretty nondescript during the day, but nighttime is a whole different beast. My advice? Stick to well-lit areas after dark, especially if you're carrying expensive camera gear. The "strange things" could be anything from mischievous kids to actual... well, you never know in a city like KL. Good luck with your friend's wedding though! Hope you get some cool shots, spooky or otherwise.

Yeah, that makes sense. I figured it wouldn't be super well-known; it's more of a local thing, I think. Thanks for the heads-up about Jalan Limau Purut at night though – definitely will be sticking to the well-lit paths! I'm bringing a pretty decent camera, so your warning about expensive gear is appreciated. Maybe the "creepy stuff" is just stray cats or something, but better safe than sorry, right? Fingers crossed for some good wedding pics!
