honestly just wander around the georgetown unesco zone and follow the smoke. kecik kedai on jalan penang is a tiny hidden spot for curry mee that locals swear by, the broth is coconutty and rich, about rm6 a bowl. for a sit-down, try a seafood dinner at the sunny cafe on the waterfront, their butter prawns are ridiculous and you can watch the ferries go by. also don't sleep on the popiah at the hot bowl cafe near chowrasta market, it's fresh and crunchy with that sweet sauce that makes it addictive
head straight to chulia street night hawker stalls for the real street food vibe, the hokkien mee there is incredible and only about rm8 a bowl. for a sit-down, try line clear on penang road for nasi kandar, it's been around since the 1920s and the curry mix is legendary. don't skip a cendol at penang road famous ice kacang, it's right near the jetty and hits hard on a hot day. if you want something less touristy, go to air itam market for their laksa before the crowds hit
if you're around in the morning, go to lorong selamat for the wantan mee, the char siu is so good it sells out fast. for a chill sit-down dinner, try taipan in gurney drive, the salted egg squid is a game changer. also, grab some apom manis from a street cart near komtar, it's like a crispy pancake and super cheap
