Where should I stay in Qaraghandy?

I'm heading to Qaraghandy in about 6 months and want to pick the right neighborhood. Any tips on where to stay for a mix of local life and convenience? tbh i'd check out the area around the KBTU building on Mira Street. it's got this weird mix of student life and older soviet blocks, so you get cheap lagman spots next to random karaoke bars that are actually fun. the 12th microdistrict bus stop is right there and gets you to the center in like 10 minutes, plus theres a decent bakery called "Aspan" that does fresh baursaks in the morning. just be ready for some stray dogs wandering around at night, they're harmless but it catches people off guard

honestly, if you want a mix of local life and convenience, look near the area around Bukhar Zhyrau Avenue and the intersection with Al-Farabi. it's not the touristy center but you've got grocery stores, a few solid cafes, and it's a short marshrutka ride to the main square. the microdistrict around Stepnoy is quieter but still has a decent bazaar for fresh stuff, though you'll need a taxi to get anywhere fun at night.

i'd avoid staying too close to the train station tbh, it's loud and a bit rough after dark. the area near the Central Park (Gorky Park) is fine but pricier for what you get. just pick a spot with a good grocery nearby and you'll be set for daily life.

If you want to feel like you're actually living in Qaraghandy rather than just passing through, the area around the Saryarka microdistrict is worth a look. It's further from the flashy bits but you get proper Soviet-era courtyards with kids playing and babushkas on benches, plus a handful of decent shashlik spots and a big Magnum supermarket for essentials. The walk to the city center takes about 20 minutes, or you can hop on bus 17 which runs pretty regularly. Just don't expect much nightlife out there.
