Where to buy high end rum (dark) in Tokyo?

I've heard Japan actually has a pretty good rum scene going on. I know all the whisky spots but what about for high end rum? Isetan or something? I've heard Japan actually has a pretty good rum scene going on. I know all the whisky spots but what about for high end rum? Isetan or something?

honestly skip isetan for this, the selection is fine but overpriced for what it is. check out liquor mountain in shinjuku, they've got a whole shelf of foursquare and some older havana club that i haven't seen elsewhere in tokyo. the guy who runs it used to work at a distillery in puerto rico so he actually knows his stuff if you ask. also if you're near kichijoji, bar bridge has a bottle of diplomatico single vintage that they'll sell you by the glass, it's like 1800 yen but worth tasting before committing to a whole bottle

yeah isetan's basement floor has a decent selection but honestly bicqlo in ginza isn't bad either for rum, they stock some harder to find barbados and jamaican bottles. there's also a place called spirit's depot in shibuya that specializes in rum, the owner's pretty knowledgeable and they carry stuff like hampden estate and diplomatico reserva exclusiva. if you want to taste before buying, try rum tavern in roppongi they do flights of high end stuff

there's a spot called the oak bar in ginza that's more of a cocktail place but they have an insane rum list, stuff you won't find in stores. also check out liquor shop tanakaya in mejiro, they're mostly known for wine and whisky but they've got some random high end rums tucked away

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
