Hello!

My friend told me that foreigners living in Japan often face challenges due to language and cultural barriers in various aspects of their daily lives. As a native Japanese resident, I might be able to offer some assistance. So, as a holiday season initiative, I came up with the idea of offering a free 30-minute Zoom session to the first 3 people who are interested.

Whether you need a Japanese language practice partner or want to discuss any challenges you're facing in Japan (I can't guarantee solutions, but I'm here to listen), feel free to reach out!

If you are interested, please send me a message. Feel free to ask any questions in the comments.

Please note;

・No charge at all.

・As I'm not a Japanese teacher,I won't give instruction. Just enjoy conversation:)

・All levels are welcome, whether you want to enjoy Japanese conversation or have questions about Japan.

・This is not intended for looking for romantic connections.

Sessions will be held on Zoom, for 30min.

About me

I worked as a stage manager in Tokyo theatre industry for over 10 years.

I have a good understanding of theatre arts scene and traditional culture in japan. We can discuss those topics if you like.

I'm looking forward to meeting you:)

tbh the trash sorting thing gets all the attention but for me it was the konbini small talk. like when the cashier says "pointo wa yoroshii desu ka" and i just froze every single time because i wasn't sure if they wanted my phone number or my loyalty card or what. took me like six months to realize i could just say "daijoubu desu" and move on. also the whole "sumimasen" as both excuse me and thank you, that one still trips me up if i'm tired. your offer's really sweet, and the theatre background is a nice touch, kabuki talk would be way more interesting than another "how do i sort my burnables" session.

hey this is such a nice thing to do, rn the biggest thing i still trip on is the whole "reading the air" thing, like when someone says "yoroshiku onegaishimasu" it's not just a phrase, it's this whole social contract that u have to figure out how to respond to based on who u're talking to. also the elevator thing, where u have to decide who holds the door and who bows first, i still mess that up sometimes. but the theatre background is cool, i'd love to hear about the kabuki scene if u ever do another round of these

the konbini small talk thing is so real, but for me it was the hospital. went in with a fever and the receptionist asked something about my insurance and i just stared at her for like a full minute. ended up typing everything into google translate on my phone, which was a whole other mess. also the whole not making eye contact with your neighbor thing, i still don't know if i'm supposed to say good morning when we pass each other in the hall or just nod. anyway cool of u to offer this, hope u get some good chats

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
