Is utsunomiya worth a day trip visit from Tokyo ?
honestly utsunomiya is mostly known for gyoza and not much else. if you're really into dumplings you could make a day of it, hit up the gyoza street and try a few spots, but the city itself is pretty quiet otherwise
if you want something more interesting within 2 hours, take the shinkansen to kamakura or nikko instead. nikko's temples and waterfall hikes are way more worth the trip, and it's only about 45 mins from tokyo on the shinkansen. or if you want a smaller city vibe, kawagoe's old town is like a mini edo period set, less than an hour on the train
