Any super cool atmospheric tiki bars?
I'm looking for a cool, atmospheric tiki bar. Ideally something dark, cool cups / mugs and cool cockt… I searched and didn't see anything here on reddit other than a mention of a bar from 5 years ago.
I'm looking for a cool, atmospheric tiki bar. Ideally something dark, cool cups / mugs and cool cocktails. Typically I'd be looking for a super budget option, but for this I'd prioritize the atmosphere over anything.
I've googled of course and the only SUPER obvious option (and it is a good option) seems to be Trader Vics Tokyo.

tiki mura is solid but if you want something different check out the mermaid bar in ginza. it's not strictly tiki but has that whole nautical dark vibe with shell decor and weird lighting, pretty sure they serve zombie cocktails in proper ceramic mugs. drinks are like 1800 yen but the space is tiny and feels like a hidden speakeasy off a side street near harumi dori. trader vics is fine for the history but the crowd can be touristy on weekends
ngl trader vics is fine but if you want the real deal go to bar tropical in ginza. it's basically a time capsule from the 70s, dark wood and bamboo everywhere, the owner's been making tiki drinks since before most of us were born. only 6 seats so you gotta get lucky or go early. drinks are like 2000 yen but you're paying for the vibe and history not the frills. no souvenir mugs but honestly who needs another dust collector

honestly the guide nailed it but i'd throw in nakameguro for anyone visiting in spring. the canal walk during cherry blossom season is insane, way less crowded than ueno or shinjuku gyoen. plus there's a killer onigiri spot called Onigiri Bongo that sells out by noon, and the area has a ton of tiny wine bars and vintage shops. rooms at the Claska hotel start around $120 and it's a quick hop to shibuya on the tokyu line

For cheap eats in that area, the basement floor of Takashimaya department store has incredible takeout bento boxes under 1,000 yen that beat most convenience store meals.
