Trouble is i can't really seem to find anywhere to buy like a second hand cap and gown.

If anyone knows the best place to buy please let me know!

Thanks

Try the costume rental shops in Asakusa or around Nakano Broadway - they do a lot of academic gown rentals for the local March graduation season. You can usually pick one up for around 3,000 to 5,000 yen for a few days, no questions asked.

If you want to buy outright rather than rent, check Don Quijote's Halloween section, they often have generic black gowns year-round in Shinjuku or Shibuya. It won't be the exact university style but it'll get the job done for a funny photo.

honestly for a DIY grad thing i'd hit up the daiso in shibuya or the loft in shinjuku. they sell cheap black fabric or even pre-made togas in the party section, like those roman costume ones. grab some fabric glue and a tassel from a 100 yen shop and you're set for under 1,000 yen total

if u want it to look more legit theres a uniform shop near takadanobaba station called something like "gakusei fuku" that sells actual academic gowns. they have a clearance rack in the back for around 3,000 yen but its hit or miss on sizes.

If you're near Kanda, check out the uniform shops around Jinbocho. There's a cluster of them on Yasukuni-dori that supply actual graduation gowns to local universities. They sell off old stock and overruns for around 4,000 to 5,000 yen, and the quality is way better than a costume shop gown.

Another option is Yahoo Auctions or Mercari, since it's March right now and tons of people are listing their used gowns. You can filter by pickup in Tokyo and have it in hand by tomorrow. Just search for "gakushiho" or "sotsugyo isho" and you'll see plenty for under 2,000 yen.

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
