Frankly I'm in the target audience because, shaving is annoying and facial hair doesn't look good… I've been getting various ads from various clinics that do hair removal services suspiciously cheap.

Has anyone have had experiences with this? I've heard some horror stories from people who got severe burns on their skin and I'm anxious about looking like someone who just ran out of a burning house.
honestly i've been to a few of those cheap places in shinjuku and they were fine for small areas. the horror stories usually come from people trying to do full legs or backs at those prices, not just a chin strip. for facial hair you're prob better off paying a bit more at somewhere like Musee or Silver Ring since they specialize in that area and the machines are newer. the cheap places use older IPL tech that can be iffy on darker skin tones so if you're not super pale i'd avoid the 500 yen per session deals.
fwiw i go to a place called SLC in shibuya for my upper lip, it's like 1500 a session and they use alexandrite laser not IPL. the cheap ads are usually IPL which works but takes way more sessions and can hurt more on darker skin. the burn stories i've heard are almost always from people using at-home IPL devices or going to places that don't check skin type first. for just chin and mouth area you'd prob be fine at any halfway decent clinic, just avoid the ones that don't let you do a patch test first.
Yeah the cheap ads are almost always IPL which is fine but takes like 12+ sessions for permanent results. If you're only doing chin and lip area, I'd just save up for a proper laser place like Ginza Clinic or Stella Mia. They run campaigns for small areas around 3000 yen a session and you'll be done in like 6 sessions instead of 20.
