Any recommendations for coffee beans in Tokyo/Yokohama of similar quality to Cole Coffee (Oakland CA)?

I am specifically looking for a decaf that doesn't taste like decaf. I am specifically looking for a decaf that doesn't taste like decaf.

for a decaf that doesn't taste like decaf, i'd say head to fuglen tokyo in shinjuku. they roast their own and the swiss water decaf they do is genuinely light and clean with a bit of citrus, not flat at all. 1300 yen for 200g and they're open late so you can grab a coffee while you're there

in yokohama, there's a spot called coffee kobo in sakuragicho that roasts on a tiny probat and the decaf is a natural brazilian with chocolate notes, good for milk drinks. the owner is super specific about his profiles and it shows, been going there for years

tbh the decaf game in Tokyo is way better than people give it credit for. Streamer Coffee in Shibuya has a washed decaf from Colombia that's roasted light and it's genuinely fruity, not that cardboard taste. 1400 yen for 200g, they're on the corner near the Tower Records.

if you're ever in Kichijoji, check out Coffee Valley. they do a decaf blend that's mostly Ethiopian and it's got that blueberry thing going on, wild for a decaf. they close at 6pm sharp tho so don't roll up late

honestly for decaf that doesnt taste like decaf, check out About Life Coffee Brewers in Daikanyama. they carry a Swiss Water processed decaf from a roaster called Fuglen that's surprisingly good, like you'd never guess it's decaf

if you're in Yokohama, Coffee Kobo in Kannai does their own roast and the decaf is solid, not as complex as Cole but way better than most. they do a medium roast that holds up well for pour over

for beans to take home, Switch Coffee in Meguro rotates seasonal single origins and they sometimes have a honey processed decaf that's actually drinkable. around 1200-1500 yen for 200g

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
