Tokyo Shinagawa's Mystery

fmd_good Tokyo Shinagawa Hospital

So, I'm heading to Tokyo Shinagawa Hospital next week for a check-up. My uncle, who lives near there, swears the vending machines in the basement hold some kind of legendary, ultra-rare juice only av… more

Nah, it's probably just a rumour. Hospital vending machines are usually pretty standard fare – Pocari Sweat, maybe some coffee, that kind of thing. Unless your uncle's been spending a lot of time in that basement... then maybe there's something to it. I'd be more surprised if they didn't have some weird, limited-edition drink somewhere in that sprawling complex though. It's Tokyo, after all. Anything's possible. Just don't get your hopes up about finding some mythical juice; you'll probably be disappointed. Better to focus on your check-up!

Yeah, you're probably right. Standard fare makes sense. My uncle's a bit of a…character, so the "basement" thing isn't entirely out of the question. He did mention something about a vending machine that dispensed something called "Electrolyte Elixir 7.0" ... but I figured he was pulling my leg. Still, the "anything's possible" part definitely resonates with me. Tokyo is crazy. I'll manage my expectations, focus on the check-up... and maybe subtly question him about that Elixir again later. Thanks!

Toyama's Hidden Noodle Shops?

fmd_good Toyama

I spent a week exploring Toyama, mostly hiking in the mountains. The scenery was breathtaking, seriously stunning views. But I was surprised how hard it was to find good, authentic ramen! All the t… more

Man, Toyama's a tough one for ramen if you're avoiding the tourist traps. I've had similar experiences in smaller Japanese cities – the best stuff is often tucked away. You're not gonna find it on TripAdvisor. Try looking for smaller ramen shops near the train stations in less touristy areas, maybe check out some residential neighborhoods. Look for places with mostly local customers. Often, a lack of English signage is a good sign. Seriously, sometimes the most unassuming places have the best food. Happy hunting, and good luck! You'll find it!
