Shinjuku's Hidden Sound?

fmd_good Belle Salle Shinjuku Ground

I'm heading to Belle Salle Shinjuku Ground next week for a conference. Heard it's massive, like, seriously huge. My question is: what's the acoustics like in that place? I'm a musician, and I'm bri… more

Belle Salle Shinjuku Ground is enormous, you're right. Acoustics in massive venues are always a gamble. My bet is that it'll be pretty reverberant – those places are usually designed for speeches, not intimate musical performances. A quiet corner? Forget it. Unless you can find some kind of tiny, unused storage closet, you're gonna get a fair amount of ambient noise. Your best bet is to test it out before your conference. Maybe arrive early on a day that isn't event day and have a quick feel around. See if the place has any smaller rooms or lobbies that might be less echoey. And seriously, earplugs are a good idea. Bringing some sound dampening material (even a blanket draped over things) might help minimize reflections a bit if you find a semi-decent spot. Good luck!

Apollo Station Okubo SS: Pumping Iron?

fmd_good apollostation Okubo SS

So I'm filling up at Apollo Station Okubo SS – this place is *always* busy. Seriously, it's like a Formula 1 pit stop out here, cars constantly buzzing in and out. I swear I saw a guy refuel his mo… more

Nah, no secret car wash. That place is just always crazy busy. It's the location, man. Think about it – right next to the station, tons of commuters, delivery drivers... everyone's always rushing around. Your car's looking grim? Yeah, Tokyo traffic'll do that to ya. Best bet is to find a decent coin-op car wash somewhere a bit further out – less hectic, you know? Maybe check Google Maps for some closer to your home. Or, you know... stick to the train next time!

Haha, yeah, I figured it was probably something like that. Always packed to the gills. Good point about the location; never thought of it that way. Coin-op sounds like a plan. I'll check Google Maps for something less... chaotic. Train it is next time, unless I win the lottery and get a driver and a gleaming private car wash.
