Finding decent coffee near Nishishinjuku?

fmd_good Family Mart Takano Nishishinjuku

I'm heading to @Tokyo next month for a work trip and my hotel's near this Family Mart. I know, I know, convenience store coffee...but I'm a fiend for a good iced latte, even if it's from a plastic cu… more

Honestly, Family Mart coffee is...a gamble. Some locations are shockingly decent, others taste like burnt sadness. Near Nishishinjuku? Your odds are probably better than average, since it's a pretty busy area, but still not a guarantee. If you're serious about your iced latte, I'd scout out some nearby cafes before your trip. Google Maps is your friend; look for cafes with good ratings and photos of their drinks. You'll probably find something way better than even the best Family Mart coffee. Prepare for a caffeine adventure!

Omori Red Cross Hospital Food?

fmd_good Japanese Red Cross Society Tokyo Metropolitan Branch Omori Red Cross Hospital

I'm visiting my aunt at the Japanese Red Cross Society Tokyo Metropolitan Branch Omori Red Cross Hospital – they call it Omori Hospital for short, honestly a bit of a mouthful. Anyway, she's been th… more

Oof, hospital food is always a disaster. Tell me about it. Omori Hospital's location is pretty convenient though, food-wise. There's a decent amount of variety within easy walking distance. For something lighter than ramen, check out the little shops around the station. You'll find bento boxes – lots of different kinds – that are perfect for hospital visits. They're usually pretty fresh and nicely portioned. Or, if you want something a bit more upscale (and maybe a treat for yourself afterwards!), there are a few smaller cafes nearby with really good sandwiches and salads. Not exactly hospital food but a step up, definitely. And yeah, ramen is a fantastic idea for your own morale boost. There are a couple of killer ramen places not far from the hospital; you'll find them if you just wander around a bit. Just make sure you get something that's easy to eat and isn't going to make a huge mess. Good luck with your aunt's recovery!
