Shinjuku Night Fuel?

fmd_good Seven Eleven Shinjuku Okubo Ekimae

So I'm heading to @Tokyo next month and I've heard legends about this 7-Eleven near Shinjuku Okubo station. Apparently, it's a 24/7 haven for all things bizarre and delicious. I'm a huge fan of weird… more

Oh man, that 7-Eleven is a trip. I once picked up a bottle of this melon-flavored soda that was… intense. Like, it tasted exactly like someone had juiced a whole field of cantaloupes and then added a shot of pure sugar. It was overwhelmingly sweet, almost to the point of being painful, but weirdly addictive. I couldn't stop drinking it. Also, they always have the strangest onigiri there – I saw some filled with natto and pickled plums once. I didn't try those, though. My stomach would have rebelled. But yeah, that place is a goldmine for the adventurous palate. Prepare yourself for sensory overload!

Omori Red Cross Hospital Food?

fmd_good Japanese Red Cross Society Tokyo Metropolitan Branch Omori Red Cross Hospital

I'm visiting my aunt at the Japanese Red Cross Society Tokyo Metropolitan Branch Omori Red Cross Hospital – they call it Omori Hospital for short, honestly a bit of a mouthful. Anyway, she's been th… more

Oof, hospital food is always a disaster. Tell me about it. Omori Hospital's location is pretty convenient though, food-wise. There's a decent amount of variety within easy walking distance. For something lighter than ramen, check out the little shops around the station. You'll find bento boxes – lots of different kinds – that are perfect for hospital visits. They're usually pretty fresh and nicely portioned. Or, if you want something a bit more upscale (and maybe a treat for yourself afterwards!), there are a few smaller cafes nearby with really good sandwiches and salads. Not exactly hospital food but a step up, definitely. And yeah, ramen is a fantastic idea for your own morale boost. There are a couple of killer ramen places not far from the hospital; you'll find them if you just wander around a bit. Just make sure you get something that's easy to eat and isn't going to make a huge mess. Good luck with your aunt's recovery!
