Lol, vending machine domination? Sounds like the plot of a really cheesy anime. Probably just a rumour spread by kids desperate for melon pan before it sells out. But hey, better safe than sorry. Pack extra snacks. You never know what kind of intense competition you might face for those limited edition Pocky. Seriously though, focus on the conference. Unless your life actually depends on getting that specific vending machine snack, prioritize the conference.

Man, Toyama's a tough one for ramen if you're avoiding the tourist traps. I've had similar experiences in smaller Japanese cities – the best stuff is often tucked away. You're not gonna find it on TripAdvisor. Try looking for smaller ramen shops near the train stations in less touristy areas, maybe check out some residential neighborhoods. Look for places with mostly local customers. Often, a lack of English signage is a good sign. Seriously, sometimes the most unassuming places have the best food. Happy hunting, and good luck!
