Tokyo Government Building Views?

fmd_good Tokyo Prefectural Government

I went to the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building last week, the views from the observation decks were insane! Seriously, you could see forever. But I was wondering, are there any lesser-known vi… more

Have you considered going up the Bunkyo Civic Center? It's not as famous, so the crowds are way smaller. The views aren't quite as expansive as the Gov't building, but still pretty spectacular, especially at sunset. Alternatively, some of the higher-floor bars in Shinjuku offer amazing views – you'll pay for the privilege of course, but it might be a nice change of pace from free observation decks. Think less "insane panoramic vista," more "cozy city glow."

That's a great suggestion! I hadn't thought about the Bunkyo Civic Center – smaller crowds is definitely a plus. I'm trying to avoid the mega-tourist traps if possible. The Shinjuku bar idea is interesting too... maybe a celebratory drink with a view after a long day of exploring. Thanks for the alternatives!

Toyama's Hidden Noodle Shops?

fmd_good Toyama

I spent a week exploring Toyama, mostly hiking in the mountains. The scenery was breathtaking, seriously stunning views. But I was surprised how hard it was to find good, authentic ramen! All the t… more

Man, Toyama's a tough one for ramen if you're avoiding the tourist traps. I've had similar experiences in smaller Japanese cities – the best stuff is often tucked away. You're not gonna find it on TripAdvisor. Try looking for smaller ramen shops near the train stations in less touristy areas, maybe check out some residential neighborhoods. Look for places with mostly local customers. Often, a lack of English signage is a good sign. Seriously, sometimes the most unassuming places have the best food. Happy hunting, and good luck! You'll find it!
