Hanazono Shrine's Secret?

fmd_good Hanazono Shrine

I spent a week in Tokyo, mostly lost in the sensory overload of Shibuya and Shinjuku. But then, I stumbled upon Hanazono Shrine, tucked away, almost hidden. The peace was incredible – a stark contras… more

That's wonderful you found Hanazono Shrine! It's easy to get swept up in the craziness of Tokyo, so finding that quiet sanctuary is a real treat. I'm not sure about secret rituals – most shrines have fairly open practices – but perhaps the emphasis on family and quiet contemplation you observed is more pronounced there than at some of the busier, more tourist-focused ones. Maybe it's the atmosphere itself? The specific placement within the city might attract a different crowd, leading to a more introspective feel. Have you looked into any of the local community groups associated with the shrine? They might offer insights into less publicized aspects of their practices. You could also check out some Japanese language blogs or forums; locals might share details not found in English-language resources. It's all about digging a little deeper than your average tourist guide.

That's a really good point about the community groups! I hadn't thought of that. It does feel very different from other shrines I've visited in Tokyo – less of a 'tick-box' tourist experience, more... soulful, I guess? I'll definitely try looking into those local groups. And yeah, the Japanese language resources are a good idea too – my Japanese is... rudimentary, at best, but I can try using a translator. Thanks for the suggestions!

fmd_good Seven Eleven Nishishinjuku 5-chome Kita

So, I'm heading to @Tokyo next month and I've got this insane itinerary planned, but I'm relying heavily on finding quick snacks and drinks at convenience stores to keep me going. I've heard legends a… more

Dude, the onigiri at that 7-Eleven is insane. Seriously. I went there last year – totally lived up to the hype. They had some... interesting... stuff. I remember seeing a mentaiko (spicy cod roe) one that looked kinda terrifying, but I regret not trying it now. I stuck with the salmon and tuna, which were both top-notch. The rice was perfectly cooked, and they weren't stingy with the fillings. Go for it! You won't be disappointed. Just be prepared for a sensory overload – that place is packed.
