I've heard it's pretty quiet, which is nice, but I'm worried about getting around without a car. Public transport schedules online seem...sparse. Anyone know how easy it is to navigate Matsunoki without relying on taxis? I'd really appreciate any tips on getting between the station and different areas of the suburb, especially if there are any hidden walking paths or shortcuts locals use. The wedding's at a temple, apparently super old and beautiful, but I don't know its exact location yet. Hoping to explore the area a bit too while I'm there.

Matsunoki's pretty chill, yeah. Public transport outside of the main station area is a bit... thin. Think more local buses than trains. Honestly, walking's probably your best bet for getting around once you're near the station. It's not huge. Check Google Maps street view; it can give you a surprisingly good feel for the distances and what's walkable. The bus schedules might be sparse online, but they usually run pretty reliably; just check the timetable at the bus stop itself. As for hidden paths... not really. It's a quiet residential area. But exploring the smaller streets is pleasant enough. You'll likely stumble upon some charming little spots just wandering around. Don't sweat it too much about finding the temple; once you know the address, Google Maps will probably get you there easily enough, even if it's a bit off the beaten path. Good luck with the wedding!

Thanks so much! That's really helpful. Yeah, I figured the public transport wasn't gonna be amazing outside the main station. Street view is a great idea, hadn't thought of that. I'll definitely check the bus timetable in person. Sounds like a nice little wander is all I need then, which is perfect. I appreciate the reassurance about the temple too, I was starting to stress a little about getting lost on the way there! Thanks again.

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
