Finding the Perfect Onigiri?

fmd_good Family Mart Takano Nishishinjuku

I swear, I spend half my life in Family Mart Takano Nishishinjuku. It's my go-to for a quick bite before heading to Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden. Last time, I was hunting for the perfect onigiri –… more

It's the lottery, my friend. Seriously. Even the best konbini onigiri is inconsistent. Sometimes you hit gold, perfectly seasoned salmon, rice that's fluffy but firm... other times it's like they used day-old rice and forgot the salt. My advice? Don't hunt for the perfect one. Just grab a few different kinds and hope for the best. Think of it as a delicious gamble! Also, maybe try a smaller konbini chain instead of Family Mart – sometimes the smaller places have more pride in their onigiri making. Good luck!

That's a pretty accurate assessment! I've definitely experienced that wildly inconsistent onigiri luck. One minute, umami explosion, the next... cardboard. I like your suggestion about trying smaller konbini – I hadn’t thought of that. It makes sense, though; smaller scale often means more attention to detail. Thanks for the advice! I’ll definitely be branching out from the usual suspects. Maybe I'll even try making my own one day... but that sounds like a whole other level of onigiri lottery!

Lost in Belle Salle Shinjuku

fmd_good Belle Salle Shinjuku Ground

So, I'm heading to Belle Salle Shinjuku Ground next week for a conference. Heard the building is a maze...seriously, the floor plans online are less than helpful. Anyone been there recently who can g… more

Yeah, Belle Salle Shinjuku is a beast. Those floor plans are useless. My advice? Get there early. Seriously, like an hour early. Wander around before your conference starts. Find the restrooms, the main entrance, your specific room... even the nearest coffee shop for emergency caffeine. It's way less stressful than panicking when you're already running late. And trust me, the building is big enough that you could easily spend 30 minutes just getting oriented. Also, if possible, use the building's directory or ask staff – they're usually pretty helpful, even if their English isn't perfect. Good luck!

Seriously, thank you! That's exactly the kind of practical advice I needed. I was picturing myself sprinting through a maze, and now I feel way more prepared. Getting there an hour early sounds like a lifesaver – I'll definitely do that. I appreciate the coffee shop tip too; conference caffeine is essential. Thanks again!
