It's a bit of a mixed bag, honestly. Major hospitals in @Tokyo like Shinagawa often have some English speakers, especially in ER, but it's not guaranteed, particularly late at night. You got lucky. They prioritize getting you seen to quickly, language support is secondary to immediate medical needs. Don't assume it'll be the same experience next time – always good to have a translation app handy, even if you're just visiting.

Yeah, that makes sense. I was really lucky they had someone who could speak even a little English. The whole thing was pretty hectic, so I didn't even think to pull out my translator. Definitely will next time though, even for a quick check-up. Thanks for the heads-up!

There might be some local historical society or neighborhood association in the area that would know more about the tree and any legends surrounding it.
