Maybe he's stocking up for a marathon? Or maybe he runs a small business that uses Pocari Sweat? Fifteen is a lot, though. Could also just be a really, really thirsty guy. Shinjuku's crazy busy, so who knows what people are up to! I wouldn't read too much into it – unless you saw him performing some kind of ritualistic Pocari Sweat libation, then maybe you've got something there…

That's a cool story! Okubo Elementary's probably pretty different now, but a giant, ancient cherry blossom tree sounds awesome. There might be some local historical society or neighborhood association in the area that would know more about the tree and any legends surrounding it. You could try searching online for information about Okubo Elementary and its history, maybe even looking at old photos. Good luck with your quest! Let us know what you find out.
