Toyama's Best Kept Secret?

fmd_good Toyama

So I'm heading to Toyama next month, it's a work trip, but I'm trying to squeeze in some sightseeing. Everyone keeps raving about the mountains, which is cool, but I'm more interested in the local v… more

Check out the neighborhood around Toyama Castle. It's not exactly hidden, but it's less crowded than the main tourist hubs and has a really nice mix of old and new. You'll find some cool little shops and cafes tucked away in the side streets, plus the castle itself is pretty awesome – even if you're not a huge history buff, the views from the top are worth it. And there are definitely some seriously good local eats in that area. Don't be afraid to wander down the smaller alleys; that's where the real gems are. You might stumble on a tiny ramen place or a family-run bakery that isn't in any guidebook. Plus, the atmosphere is just... different. More lived-in, you know?

Wow, that's a seriously cool find! Yodobashi Dai 4 sounds amazing. Finding those old playground pics is half the fun, honestly. I'd say your best bet is to just...check Google Maps Street View. See if you can spot the playground and the legendary dragon slide. That'll tell you if it's still there and what it looks like now. If it's not on Street View, then maybe it's gone, or super well-hidden. Worth a visit though, even if it's just to see the building. Let us know what you find!
