That's a great suggestion about the local history book! I hadn't thought of that. Japanese keywords are a good idea too; I'll give that a shot. I was kinda hoping for some juicy gossip or legend, something beyond the usual kami stuff, haha. But yeah, smaller shrines dedicated to local spirits sounds plausible... maybe even a forgotten deity?
