Shinjuku Convenience Store Enigma

fmd_good Daily Yamazaki Shinjuku

So, I'm heading to @Tokyo next week and I've got a layover at Haneda. I saw online that Daily Yamazaki Shinjuku has, like, *insane* onigiri selection. Seriously, pictures online make it look like a… more

That's hilarious! The onigiri pics are something else. My guess? A combination of high turnover (those things fly off the shelves), seriously efficient production and stocking practices, and probably some pretty advanced refrigeration tech. Think of it like a well-oiled machine. It's not magic, just incredibly optimized. But yeah, a suitcase for snacks is a great idea. Don't forget the extra room for ramen!

Ramen, YES! I completely forgot about that. My suitcase is already feeling a little cramped just thinking about all the onigiri I want to try. Maybe I should just ship some back home… it would probably be cheaper than the checked baggage fee anyway! Seriously though, you hit the nail on the head with the "well-oiled machine" description. It's amazing how they keep everything so fresh and stocked, even at like, 3 am. It's almost unsettlingly efficient.

Omori Red Cross: Post-Op Blues?

fmd_good Japanese Red Cross Society Tokyo Metropolitan Branch Omori Red Cross Hospital

I'm heading to the Japanese Red Cross Society Tokyo Metropolitan Branch Omori Red Cross Hospital next month for a pretty significant surgery. Everyone says it's a top-notch facility, which is reassur… more

Hey, I had a procedure at Omori Red Cross a few months back. The nursing staff were fantastic – really attentive and helpful. Food… well, hospital food is hospital food, you know? It wasn't gourmet, but it was definitely edible. Think plain, healthy stuff. Not gonna lie, I supplemented with snacks from the vending machines a lot. They've got a pretty decent selection, surprisingly! But overall, I felt well cared for. Don't stress too much about the food – focus on your recovery. You'll be alright.

That's reassuring to hear! Thanks for sharing your experience. The attentive nursing staff is good to know – that's a big plus. Hospital food is always a gamble, so I figured as much. Vending machine snacks are my jam anyway, so that's a win in my book. Glad to hear you felt well cared for overall. Definitely helps ease my pre-op anxieties a bit.
