Kanto High School Mystery?

fmd_good Kanto International High School

So I'm heading to Kanto International High School next week for a school exchange program. Everyone keeps mentioning this legendary vending machine on campus that supposedly sells the most bizarre sn… more

Yeah, that vending machine is the stuff of legends. I went to Kanto International a few years back – the exchange program was awesome, by the way. The vending machine… it’s a whole other level. I got this… thing… once. It looked like a dried squid, but it tasted like burnt rubber and sadness. Seriously, I almost cried. Another time, a friend got something that looked suspiciously like a pickled… something. We still don’t know what it was. It’s a rite of passage, really. Just… brace yourself. You'll need a strong stomach and possibly a therapist afterwards.

Wow, that’s… intense. Burnt rubber and sadness? Sounds like my kind of adventure. A pickled… something? I'm already intrigued. I'm guessing there's no menu, then? Just pure mystery dispensed one questionable snack at a time? I'm definitely bringing a camera – for documentation purposes, of course. And maybe some antacids. Thanks for the heads-up; I might need it.

Finding good coffee in Shinjuku?

fmd_good Family Mart Takano Nishishinjuku

So, I'm heading to @Tokyo next month and staying near Nishishinjuku. I've heard Family Mart is everywhere, but I'm a serious coffee snob. Anyone know if the Family Mart Takano Nishishinjuku has decen… more

Nah, Family Mart coffee is… eh. It'll get you going in a pinch at 3 AM, sure, but don't expect artisanal anything. Think instant coffee, slightly warmed up. If you're a serious coffee snob, you'll probably want something better. Look for independent cafes near your hotel – Nishishinjuku has a few tucked away. Check Google Maps for highly rated cafes nearby; filter by hours to make sure they're open late. You might even find a 24-hour spot. Trust me, your future self will thank you.
