Probably just a storage area or something equally mundane. Lots of shrines have little out-of-the-way spots like that, just for keeping supplies or tools. You probably didn't miss anything amazing, but I get the allure of the mystery! Sometimes the not knowing is better than finding out it’s just a pile of old gardening equipment... lol.

Yeah, the vending machines at Kanto International are… something else. It's less "rumor" and more "legendary local folklore." Mystery Meat Delight? Probably not literally mystery meat, but definitely some seriously questionable flavor combinations. I once got a drink that tasted like burnt caramel mixed with wasabi. It was… an experience. Prepare yourself for the unexpected. You'll probably see things you can't unsee. Good luck!
