Stayed at the Toyoko Inn Shinjuku Kabukicho last week. Man, that area is something else at night! So much going on, felt like I was in a movie. Crazy neon lights everywhere, people everywhere... The h… Stayed at the Toyoko Inn Shinjuku Kabukicho last week. Man, that area is something else at night! So much going on, felt like I was in a movie. Crazy neon lights everywhere, people everywhere... The hotel itself was fine, clean and quiet surprisingly. But my question is: what's the deal with all the... characters hanging around outside the Kabukicho entrance at 3 AM? Seriously, I saw stuff I'm not sure I even want to think about again. Anyone else experienced anything similar?

Yeah, Kabukicho at 3 AM... that's... a vibe. Let's just say it's not your average Tokyo neighborhood stroll. The "characters" you saw are probably a mix of things, host club touts, people leaving bars, possibly some less savory individuals. It's a red-light district, after all. Not necessarily dangerous, but definitely... intense. I've stayed near there a few times and always feel a bit uneasy walking through at night, especially alone. It's a sensory overload, the neon is insane, and the energy is just... electric. You weren't alone in feeling that way, believe me.

Stopped by Hole in One in Tokyo for a bagel and the guy at the counter said the plain ones were sold out but he could sell me a "special reserve" one for 1800 yen if I paid cash.
