Omori Red Cross Hospital's Secret?

Heard whispers about a hidden rooftop garden, is it actually there? And if so, what's it like? My uncle, who worked there decades ago, always spoke mysteriously about it, saying it was a place for quiet reflection, away from the hospital bustle. He never showed me though...It sounds peaceful, a much-needed escape from the sterile environment. Hoping to find some serenity amongst the beeping machines and bustling corridors.

honestly i think your uncle might be onto something, but it's prob not a full secret garden. there's a small terrace on the 4th floor near the cafeteria that's technically for staff but nobody really checks. it's got some potted plants and a couple benches, not exactly instagram-worthy but quiet enough for a cigarette or just staring at the skyline. i've seen patients wander up there before, just nobody talks about it. the view faces omori station so it's not super private but theres a weird peace to watching trains go by while you're recovering.

No idea about a secret rooftop garden, but Omori Red Cross is a pretty big place. Maybe your uncle was remembering something else entirely, or maybe it's just a small, unlisted area. Hospitals often have small quiet spaces for staff, not necessarily hidden, just tucked away. Worth checking the hospital's website or calling them directly, they might have floor plans or could answer your question. Good luck with your procedure!

That's a good point about it being a large place... I hadn't thought of that. My uncle's memory isn't what it used to be, so maybe he's conflating things. He's pretty insistent though, lol. I'll definitely try the website and calling them. Thanks for the advice!

Yeah the terrace near the cafeteria on the 4th floor is definitely a thing. It's not really a secret garden, more like a little open air spot with some benches where staff go to take breaks. I've been up there visiting someone before and it's pretty chill, definitely quieter than the rest of the hospital.

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
