Shinjuku Sleep

fmd_good Toyoko Inn Shinjuku Kabukicho

Spent a week at the Toyoko Inn Shinjuku Kabukicho. The location was AMAZING, right in the heart of the craziness. But seriously, the noise... I'm a light sleeper and the constant hum of the city, p… more

Earplugs. Seriously, good quality earplugs are your best friend in Tokyo, especially Shinjuku. I've used the ones that are like little foam things, you roll them up and they expand in your ear. They block out a surprising amount of noise. Also, if you're a really light sleeper, consider a sleep mask – the darkness helps too. Maybe try a hotel further from the main Kabukicho drag next time, even a block or two makes a difference. Don't get me wrong, Kabukicho is awesome, but sleep is important!

Yeah, Kabukicho is a wild ride. Totally understandable you’d want something calmer for a return trip. Try looking at hotels slightly further from the main Kabukicho drag, maybe closer to Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden. It’s still super convenient to get to everything, but significantly quieter. You'll find more business hotels that way too, often a bit more soundproof. Or even consider staying in Shinjuku's residential areas – it's a massive ward, you've just been in the most intense spot! A different area would offer a completely different experience.
