Okubo Elementary's Secret?

fmd_good Okubo Elementary School

I'm heading to @Tokyo next month and stumbled across this little elementary school, Okubo Elementary School, online. It looks so peaceful in the pictures, nestled away from the usual Tokyo hustle. I… more

Not sure about secret events specifically tied to Okubo Elementary, but that area of Shinjuku is lovely and full of smaller, local life. Check out the local community centers (公民館 - kominkan) nearby; they often post schedules for neighborhood happenings on bulletin boards. You might find something small listed there, a tea ceremony, a kids' festival, something like that. Check out Omoide Yokocho (Memory Lane). It's a little maze of tiny yakitori places and izakayas tucked away near Shinjuku Station. Super local vibe, not many tourists stumble upon it, and it's got that authentic, slightly grimy, wonderfully chaotic Shinjuku energy. It's not a "dance floor" per se, but it's got a great atmosphere for drinks and socializing after a long day of conferences. You'll probably find something that fits the bill there. Plus, the food is amazing. Seriously.
