Shinjuku Banking Woes?

fmd_good Mizuho Bank Shinjuku Chuo Branch Office

So, I'm heading to the Mizuho Bank Shinjuku Chuo Branch Office next week. I need to make a pretty significant transaction, and I'm a little nervous about the whole process, especially given the langu… more

Honestly, Mizuho Bank is usually pretty efficient, even if their English isn't always stellar. Try going early in the morning – before the lunchtime rush. It's less crowded then. Bring all your necessary documents, of course, and maybe even a translated version just in case. They should have someone who speaks at least some English, but don't count on it. Don't be afraid to point and gesture; sometimes that's faster than struggling with words. If you're really worried, maybe find a Japanese-speaking friend to go with you. Or you could try calling the branch ahead of time to let them know you're coming and that you'll need assistance with the language. Good luck! It'll probably be fine.

Thanks for the tips! Going early sounds like a good plan. I figured the language barrier might be a problem, so I'll definitely bring all my paperwork and a translation. I'd rather avoid dragging a friend into it if I can help it, though. Calling ahead is a great idea – hadn't thought of that. It's just a simple account transfer, so hopefully it won't be too much of a headache. Fingers crossed!

Shinjuku Convenience Store Mystery

fmd_good Daily Yamazaki Shinjuku

So, I was grabbing a late-night onigiri at the Daily Yamazaki in Shinjuku – the one near the station, you know? It's always buzzing. Anyway, I swear I saw a cat behind the counter, just chilling, wa… more

Nah, that's not super unusual. Lots of places in Japan, especially smaller shops and restaurants, have semi-feral cats that just sort of hang around. They're usually pretty well-looked-after by the staff, more like unofficial mascots than anything. It's not like a formal thing or anything, but it's definitely not unheard of. Probably just a chill cat who's figured out a sweet deal: free food scraps and people-watching.
