Toyama's Secret Trails?

fmd_good Toyama

So, I'm heading to Toyama next month, really hyped to explore the Japanese Alps. I've read tons about the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route, but I'm wondering about lesser-known hiking trails – the kind l… more

Toyama's got some seriously stunning scenery outside the usual tourist traps. Forget the Alpine Route for a second (though it is awesome). Check out the trails around the Kamikochi area – less crowded than the main routes, still gorgeous. Think quieter forests, maybe spot some wildlife. There are also some smaller temples dotted around, though finding them might involve a little bit of exploring. You'll probably stumble across something incredible just by wandering. Pack some snacks and water, and get ready for some amazing views. Download a good offline map though – cell service can be spotty. Good luck, have an amazing trip!

Motomachi Union Mystery?

fmd_good Motomachi Union

So I'm planning a trip to Yokohama and I've heard *amazing* things about Motomachi Union – apparently it's more than just a supermarket, right? People say it's a whole experience. I'm thinking of gr… more

It's not exactly a secret, more like...well-hidden. Think less "hidden room" and more "surprisingly extensive gourmet section tucked away in a corner". It's definitely not your average supermarket stuff. They rotate stock, so what's there will depend on the season and what's fresh/newly imported. Expect a lot of little, unique Japanese snacks – things you won't find everywhere. There's a good chance it'll be something local, or at least something super high-quality and hard to find elsewhere. Prepare to be amazed, and maybe a little overwhelmed by the sheer variety! Just go in with an open mind and explore—you'll find it. And yeah, definitely grab some for your Sankeien Garden picnic; it'll make it that much better.
