That's really sweet of you! Finding decent takeout near hospitals can be a nightmare anywhere, not just in Tokyo. Since you're near Omori, maybe try looking for bento places – lots of little shops around there do fantastic, well-balanced bento boxes with a variety of things. They're usually pretty easy to transport and often include things like miso soup or other tasty side dishes. Failing that, a quick search for "Omori station takeout" or even "Omori delivery" on a Japanese food delivery app (if you have access to one) might turn up some gems. Probably just storage. Seven Eleven's are incredibly efficient with their space, and that smell? Could be anything from cleaning supplies to incense someone keeps stashed there for a break. Don't overthink it, unless you're planning a heist for those elusive limited edition Pocky. Then, yeah, maybe investigate further. 😉
