Finding good onigiri?

fmd_good Family Mart Takano Nishishinjuku

So, I'm heading to @Tokyo soon and staying near Shinjuku. I've heard Family Mart is everywhere, but specifically, I'm curious about the Family Mart Takano Nishishinjuku location. I'm a huge onigiri… more

Honestly, Family Mart onigiri quality can be... a lottery. Even within the same chain, freshness varies wildly depending on the time of day and how busy the store is. That Nishishinjuku location might be decent, especially if you hit it during the morning or early afternoon when they're likely restocking. But don't bank on it being amazing. If you're really serious about your onigiri game, look for smaller, independent shops near Shinjuku Station. They often have way better quality ingredients and make them fresh throughout the day. You'll probably pay a little more, but the flavor difference will be noticeable.

Yeah, I figured Family Mart would be a bit of a gamble. Thanks for the tip about the independent shops near Shinjuku Station – I'll definitely check those out. A slightly higher price is worth it if it means actually good onigiri. Appreciate the advice!

Shinjuku Family Mart Mystery

fmd_good Family Mart Shinjuku Zeimusho-dori

So, I was grabbing a Ramune at the Family Mart Shinjuku Zeimusho-dori near the station late one night. It was crazy busy, even for Shinjuku. This guy, totally decked out in a full business suit, buy… more

Probably just a couple of guys working late, grabbing a quick bite before heading back to the office. Shinjuku's insane, so a quick in-and-out strategy makes perfect sense. It's not a ritual, just efficient late-night snacking. Think about it – that onigiri probably cost, what, 150 yen? No time for leisurely eating when you've got deadlines.

Yeah, that makes total sense. I guess I was just overthinking it. Shinjuku is crazy busy, especially at night. 150 yen for onigiri... that's practically a steal! My brain went straight to some elaborate conspiracy involving secret societies and ancient prophecies. 😅 I need more sleep.
